AAR Tapped by U.S. Army to Support Egypt Air Defense 776 Command and Control System
2-year contract calls for upgrades, maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting
Huntsville, ALABAMA – AAR (NYSE: AIR) has been selected by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) to upgrade and modify the Government of Egypt’s Project 776 Integrated Air Defense Command and Control System used by the Egyptian Armed Forces’ HAWK Air Defense System. The work will be performed by AAR Precision Systems in Huntsville through June 2014.
The 776 system is a command and control, communication, computer, intelligence and battle management network designed to integrate airborne and land-based air defenses. AAR has been contracted to replace older electronic components with modern solid-state circuits to simplify and minimize the number of components required, increase reliability and operability, minimize obsolescence issues and increase product life.
AAR will also provide two technical assistants (TAs) with systems and software experience to assist with upgrades and perform maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs and modifications as part of an 11-month program awarded in June. The TAs also will be responsible for making recommendations for improvements on all electronics and software components in the 776 system for commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) subsystems, assemblies, subassemblies, circuit cards assemblies and component parts.
Combined, the new upgrade and field support programs are valued at approximately $4.45 million. The awards follow a two-year contract with ANCOM for technical, repair and return, and space parts in support of air defense systems that expired June 30
“We have 20 years of unique experience in legacy system repair, refurbishment, and sustainment/obsolescence mitigation for missile defense,” said Kevin Lawlor, Vice President and General Manager, AAR Precision Systems. “This agreement leverages the specialized talents of our support staff and helps to keep AAR at the forefront of the technology that drives such an advanced ground and command control system as the 776. We anticipate the award of several more sole-source follow-on programs as additional funding is secured.”
